Oakwood Cemetery (originally Oakland) was established in 1865 on the west side of North 1st Street, behind where the First congregational Church building of 1954 was constructed. Oakwood had long been administered by the Union Cemetery Association but financial difficulties forced the administration of the cemetery to revert to Dekalb Township in 1997.

Over the years many Oakwood records were lost, though efforts by locals, notably Florence Houghton Marshall, have helped supplant missing information. In an ongoing research effort, Dekalb Township has committed to restoring as much information as possible about those individuals whose final resting place lay at Oakwood. The table below lists all currently known individuals who are buried at Oakwood. See the color code key below the table for more information.

3) Hover over locations to bring up detailed information for known grave sites in the upper right hand corner.
